Mortimer Dreams, 2014 - 2016
A little world of our own.
A scale model of that mysterious original, unbroken, half-remembered.
As we head towards an indeterminate future, our distant past can come more clearly into focus. It is this world Chabon refers to—that mysterious, unbroken original–that exists at the edges of human memory and is the subject of my work in Mortimer Dreams.
On the worn surface of a city sidewalk, I build up layers of glitter shards to construct illusory images. Using light, shadow and the element of chance, I begin to construct a more complex space. Through these manipulations of the objects and light, images emerge of an undetermined place in time but one that we might ultimately know and recognize.
